Annie Hoffman is a native of London, England who now lives and paints in Santa Barbara, California. Ms. Hoffman first studied art at Santa Monica College and then UCLA, after which she spent one year studying at the Académie Notre Dame des Champs in Paris, France. Upon returning to the US in 1995, Annie studied figure drawing and old master techniques with Lance Richlin as well as Russian impressionist principles from colorists Sharon Burkett-Kaiser and Jove Wang.
Ms. Hoffman has exhibited in numerous group shows and many solo exhibitions throughout California. In addition to her own painting, Annie teaches privately and enjoys giving art demonstrations to groups both small and large. Prior to her recent move to Santa Barbara, she spent many years as a working artist in Los Angeles where she was a long-time board member of the Allied Artists of Santa Monica Mountains. Annie continues to be active member of many local and national art associations.
Like the impressionists and expressionists who have so profoundly influenced her, Annie focuses on the use of light and color, value and composition — particularly in figurative and landscape oil paintings. She is also greatly interested in how the laying down of paint can explore and achieve mood and emotion.
