“If you want to draw a bird, you must become a bird.” Katsushika Hokusai
Claire Duncan came to painting after a 30-year career in graphic design. She combines a professional designer’s understanding of the visual vocabulary with an artist’s passion for the painting process.
“I have always loved birds. I love seeing them and feeling their presence, their power and their grace. I grew up in Oklahoma, where birds of prey seen from the window of a moving car left a lasting impression in my imagination.”
Claire’s paintings owe a great debt to the influence of her graphic design career. They carry an abstract edge to their representation. Claire has lived in Oklahoma, Texas, Illinois, California and even New Delhi, India. Today she lives in Ashland, Oregon where she continues to use art as a way of learning about and loving this amazing world.
