Pink sapphires are created when varying amounts of chromium are present in the mineral corundum. The more chromium contained in the mineral, the deeper the pink of the sapphire. Pink sapphires are a color of corundum that are referred to as, “fancy” sapphires. Sapphires are the second hardest gemstone on earth, second only to diamonds. Due to this gemstone’s remarkable hardness and it’s fresh and contemporary color, pink sapphires are an extremely attractive and ideal gemstone for all types of jewelry.
